After more than 30 years as an elected representative for the people of Hamilton at the municipal, provincial and federal level, I have made the decision to not seek a 6th term as Member of Parliament and I plan to step away from public life when my current term expires in October, 2019.
It has been my distinct honour to have served as the councillor for Ward 4, the Member of Provincial Parliament for Hamilton Centre and now as the federal Member of Parliament for Hamilton Centre. I truly love our city and the people who call it home. To have earned the trust and confidence of the people of Hamilton for so many years is truly humbling and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to join with so many dedicated people working to help build a stronger, more fair and diverse community.
I could not have had the career I’ve had without the love, support and understanding of my daughter Kayla, my wife Denise, my mother June, my sister-in-law Rose, and my late brother Mark. Family is so very important and I look forward to spending more time with them in the not so distant future. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of my staff, both past and present, for their outstanding dedication and commitment to my office and the people we represent, as well my riding association and everyone who has volunteered and supported me all these years.
I have loved my time as your Member of Parliament and I can’t thank you enough for your support. My staff and I will continue to work hard during the remainder of my term in office and I look forward to seeing many of you in the community over the next 15 months.
